Our featured designer this week is the brilliantly talented Chow Hon Lam aka Flying Mouse.
Q. How’s life? Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
A. I’m doing good. My name is Chow Hon Lam aka Flying Mouse, from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Currently working in tee-shirt design industry.

Q. I was informed that you originated from Malaysia, how did you end up in the US? How long have you been living there?
A. Yes, I from Malaysia. Actually I’m now living in Kuala Lumpur :) Most of the people who know my designs are from US, maybe this make you thinking I’m living there.

Q. You design t-shirt, do you also a collector? What are some of your favorite brands and designers?
A. Yes I like tee shirt, my favorite tee shirt designer are Brock Davis and Olly Moss. I love how they using a simple execution to bring out a impact idea in their designs.

Q. That’s a cook nick you have there, any cool story behind it?
A. Cook”nick? Do you mean “Cool”, lol. I trying to think a nick which people can easy remember, the only thing appear in my mind is one of my favorite cartoon in my childhood, “Mighty Mouse”, I love this cartoon. Though I using Flying Mouse instead of Mighty Mouse to beware some copyright issue.

Q. How do you come up with the concept of ‘7 new design each week only sold for 7 days’?
A. It is inspired by my FM365 project, I commit myself to come out one design a day for one year. The 7 design a week can help us to choose what design people like, and we will reprint those designs in our permanent
store, which will be launch this week.
Q. Where did you get your inspiration from?
A. Everything around me can inspired me, a cup of tea, an orange, a clouds, or even a pussy cat. I always believe they have something to say, but just can’t speak, I trying to speak for them through my designs.
Q. Do you have any particular trademark style that can be easily associated with Flying Mouse?
A. Story Telling. Some people tell their story through movie, novel, song and drama. For me, I tell my story through tee shirt, the fantastic part is I can tell a different story everyday.
Q. Tell us about your latest project
A. My latest project is FM365, which need to complete 365 designs in on year. You can check it out those designs here, www.flyingmouse365.com. And I planning for my retail store for Malaysia, hopefully can launch in this
year.

Q. Have you collaborated with any of your idols? If you have the chance to choose any artist to collaborate with, who will the artist be?
A. My idol is Tatsuyuki Tanaka from Japan, but I don’t have any chance to collaborate with him yet.
Q. What are your future plans?
A. Trying to let more people know about my designs, and develop other products beside tee shirt.
