12 August 2009

As an illustrator and comic artist, Mr. Toni Infante have a distinct Japanese manga style with contemporary western flair. All his artworks are well drawn and a joy to look at. Thank you to Toni for answering our questions!
Q. Where do you get your inspiration from?
A. Viewing and studying all types of stuff from anywhere… In these days, internet has become the best and easier to use location of resources or whatever you want… Although I think that reading comics, books, waching movies or making photos are a good way to feel inspired too.
Personally, my inspiration become from european and japanese comic, in addition to anime (such as miyazaki, 4Âșc movies) , some writers…
Anyway, sometimes the better inspiration has come when you least expect them.
Q. To date, what is the toughest assignment that you have done so far?
A. I’ve worked in design, some types of illustration and comic, and today I think that making the last one, requiered more diferent skills and habilities.
Creating a world, a interesting history, good panels, a smooth flow of reading… you must know about composition, storytelling…and more and more…
Yes, making Comics is more dificult, but when you finish, it gives you the best reward as well.

Q. Who are your favorite artists?
A. Oh… it’s dificult to choose … so i love the work of more comic and illustration artists from around the world… Katsushiro Otomo, Miguelanxo Prado, Moebius, Taiyo Matsumoto, Miyazaki, Terada, Urasawa… just to mention some of them!

Q. So far, what are the most interesting project that you have been involved in?
A. My personal comic projects make me spend more time, but at the same time I really enjoy creating a solid world, characters… In fact, I always need to develop some own project while I work on payed jobs.

Q. Have you done any collaboration with other artist or company? Who do you want to work with in the future?
A. Currently, I’m working with a comic artist as a colourist in a comic magazine. Although I admit it… i’m like a lonely wolf, I prefer working alone or in a small team…

Q.What are the thing that you would never leave home without?
A. I always take some comic or book with me when I leave home… The problem comes when the bag weighs too much to carry!
Q. Do you do an extensive planning before starting on a certain project or you like to just do it, improvise and add on new ideas while doing it?
A. Sometimes I spend more time thinking about the composition, colouring… and more steps of the process before starting, although sometimes the planning has come as a divine touch… you don’t know where it’s come, but the work are done with a strange magician…
Q.What do you think are the most important things one should have to become a successful designer?
A. I think I’m not the right person for answer this question… In my 21 years, I’m feeling new in illustration world, so I’m also trying to become a better artist and be able to live from illustration and comic jobs. Anyway I think that honesty and constancy are most important than to have talent…
Q. What are your future plans and projects?
To evolve and improve as an artist, I hope. Currently, my mind is on several comic projects, and some of those will be published the next year in USA ( I hope so… that’s the planning), but I can not say anything more yet.
